As a business traveler, I'm always on the go and often find myself eating out at restaurants for convenience. But during my month-long trip to South East Asia, I realized how much I missed cooking at home and how much healthier it is to eat my own meals. I decided to invest in an air fryer to make cooking at home faster and easier, and I'm so glad I did. In this review, I want to share my experiences with the Simplus air fryer and why I think it's a must-have for any busy traveler looking to eat healthier on the go.
I ordered the Simplus from the popular site, Lazada, and it only cost 800 baht including delivery. It arrived nicely boxed and in perfect condition, meaning I could get cooking right away.
The airfryer had a very basic set of controls - the top know was a timer and the bottom know let you set the temperature. There were some basic instructions on the top, and the basket had a full anti-stick coating.

There was also a small grate to place the food on, to help the air circulate underneath.
Benefits of Air Frying
Here are three benefits of using an air fryer vs eating out:1. Use less oil: Air fryers use little to no oil to cook food, making them a healthier alternative to deep-frying, which requires a large amount of oil. This means you can enjoy your favorite fried foods without consuming excessive amounts of oil.
2. Cleaner: When you cook at home using an air fryer, you have complete control over the ingredients and oil used in your meals. This means you can ensure that your food is made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and that the oil used is safe and clean. In contrast, when eating out, you may not know the source of the ingredients or the quality of the oil used in the cooking process.
3. Healthier: Air fryers use hot air to cook food, which means that your food is cooked without the use of excessive oil. This makes air fryers a healthier alternative to deep-frying, which requires a large amount of oil to cook food. Additionally, when cooking at home, you can control the amount of salt and other seasonings used in your meals, making it easier to maintain a healthy diet.
To use the air fryer, I bought some Bertolli Olive oil spray, just to stop the meat from sticking.
1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
2. In a small bowl, mix together the pink Himalayan salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
3. Rinse the chicken wings and pat them dry with paper towels.
4. Add the chicken wings to a large bowl and sprinkle the pinch rub evenly over both sides of the wings.
5. Drizzle the olive oil over the wings and toss to coat evenly.
6. Place the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
7. Cook the wings for 12-15 minutes, or until they are cooked through and crispy.
8. Remove the wings from the air fryer and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Note: If you prefer a crisper texture, you can increase the cooking time by 2-3 minutes. However, be careful not to overcook the wings, as they can become dry and tough.
Before long, the wings were looking great and they had a nice crispy coating.
I was really surprised how reasonably priced chicken is in Thailand and bought some nice drum sticks from Lotus's for much less than I'd expect to pay at other cheap eats places, like KFC.
I decided to make chicken wings in the air fryer using a pink Himalayan salt pinch rub. If you'd like to try it yourself, here's the ingredient list:
Ingredients:
* 2 pounds chicken wings (mini drumstick portion)
* 2 tablespoons pink Himalayan salt pinch rub
* 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
* 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
* 1/4 teaspoon paprika
* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
* 1/4 cup olive oil
While I prefer making rubs myself, you can also find ready-made rubs that cut down on prep time.
Once coated the wings looked great! Here a list of steps I followed:
Unlike sugar-based rubs, the salt rub made the wings much lighter in color.
I tried another batch with some sugar and they came out looking much nicer.
After cooking the wings, I tried fries and they turned out well!
I also tried baked potatoes, although they didn't really cook right through.
To make the most out of the potatoes, I used baked beans and cheese to make a nice hearty meal.
In conclusion, the pink Himalayan salt pinch rub is a versatile and delicious seasoning blend that can be used on a variety of dishes. Its unique combination of flavors and textures makes it a great addition to any meal.
